Hello Mike
With only 5 weeks to go I have felt compelled to put pen to paper.
As I at present do not own a computer (in the pending tray) Elizabeth
M has kept me supplied with all the news and some very interesting
'life stories' She has also intimated that if I sent my story
she would add hers. Here goes...
A very naïve 18 year old arrived at Edinburgh Royal infirmary in September 1960 to start nursing, but soon accustomed to city life and enjoyed every minute, graduating as RGN in 1963. 1964 saw me in Bellshill doing Midwifery and becoming SCM in 1965.
In 1966, I decided to return North for 6 weeks to Raigmore to be nearer home with plans of emigrating to Canada to join my friend. However three years later having become Ward Sister in the Paediatric Ward and marrying Brian, who was in the Fleet Air Arm at Lossiemouth, I moved to Elgin.
1972 saw my husband transferring to the Royal Air Force and the end of my living in Scotland. In the next three years, I worked in Hove, Gainsborough and Doncaster before finally settling in Norfolk.
The next fourteen years saw me as a Ward Sister in Attleborough during which time my marriage broke up and I was divorced in 1981. However, out of sadness comes joy and in 1982 I met Jack a widower with two grown up children and we married in 1983. We are now the proud grandparents of 5 ranging in age from 10 17years.
In 1989 I became rather disillusioned with hospital life and had a career change I became a practice Nurse at my Doctor's surgery. I spent eleven and a half very happy years there, but decided in March of this year that it was time to say enough is enough and took early retirement 6 months!
What was I going to do with myself now, many asked? Well, back in 1992, Jack eventually got me on to the golf course an action which I sometimes think he regrets and I have taken to it like a duck to water!! I play at every opportunity and at present I am Ladies' Vice-Captain of East Dereham Golf Club and will hopefully become Ladies' Captain in November.
Jack and I look forward to August 10th and to meeting everyone. I have reassured Jack that he won't be the only one who won't know anyone.
Bye for now
Elizabeth
