Engaging professional researchers: what you should know:

Here is a useful document put out by the Society of Genealogists in the UK, which gives practical advice about commissioning genealogy research.

Employing a professional researcher: a practical guide

Let us research your family tree for you

Our research.

TimeTrackers can research your UK and Australian family history to your specifications. For example, you might want to find out:

  • everything about your mother's (or your father's) line, as far back as it can be traced;
  • the names of as many ancestors as can be found, through all your grandparents' and great-grandparents' lines;
  • a limited number of generations in order to complete an interesting wall chart; this can make a nice gift for family members;
  • all of the family relatives of a particular generation.

Or perhaps you know a lot already but you need help in overcoming a difficult genealogical problem. Whatever your needs, we'll need some information from you to get started.

Free one-hour consultation

Because everyone's research needs are different, we'll give you a free one-hour consultation before you start. Bring along some background information about what you know already and what it is you want to find out. We'll then be able to give you a no-obligation estimate of fees and charges. That way, you can match your expectations to your budget.

If you can't come to see us in Fremantle, send us an email and tell us as much as you can so that we can work out what we need to do. Email TimeTrackers and let us know:

  • what you would like to find out, and
  • briefly, what you already know about your family.

Our Terms of business.

TimeTrackers rates for research are $A50 per hour. An initial research time of 4 to 6 hours normally uncovers a reasonable amount of information, or at least reveals where there may be difficulties.

Family history research is not cheap. So much research requires obtaining documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates. Each of these will cost up to $A32. If other documents, such as wills, are required, they may be more expensive. Here's a copy of our Terms of business for your information.

Recently a number of clients have given us budgets of between $400 and $600 and said 'see what you can find for that'...in almost all cases they have been delighted with the amount and quality of information we have been able to find and present to them. But occasionally your ancestors may hide themselves well, and we need to charge fees for the time we spend on your research, even if we don't find much. We do have a good track record and we'll keep you fully informed and work within your budget to limit your exposure.
